Dull, aching head pain. Tightness and pressure around your head and temples. Pain behind or around your eyes. Tension over your forehead or back of your head. Our headache clinic in Melbourne has a proud history of helping people with headaches and migraine.
Headaches present in different ways for different people. Temples, frontal, behind the eyes, back of your head, radiating up from your neck, the different types of headache presentation seem endless!
For some people headaches occur from time to time and might be mild, for others it can be daily and debilitating! Either way, a headache doesn’t necessarily mean anything is seriously wrong but always needs to be checked.
The good news is most headaches are usually musculoskeletal in origin. In that we mean most are usually derived from structural problems. The cause of those structural problems can be varied though.
One of the most common forms of headache is known as cervicogenic headache. Just as the name suggests, this form of headache is caused by changes in the function of your neck. The result of this is often referred pain into the head.
Some people with cervicogenic headache will often comment that they feel like their pain is coming from their neck as a result tightness or stiffness, but this doesn’t have to be the case.
For others, the cause of headache can be varied and may be aggravated by sitting postures, workstation setup, sleeping postures, stress, visual problems, noise or even emotional issues.
The types of head pain are broad with each type having different causes that require different specific treatments. One thing that is consistent to all forms of headache and migraine though is the involvement of the nervous system. In fact, it’s actually been suggested that headache and migraine might be the most common neurological disorder!
Types of headaches that we commonly see include at our headache clinic near Altona:
